Every drop counts in a world where the access to water resources is unequally distributed and the uncertainty of precipitation rises with climate change and environmental degradation. The German development cooperation strives to achieve SDG 6, ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Among the manifold targets of the 2030 Agenda, this endeavor may only be successful with strong interlinkages to likeminded disciplines and sectors, such as climate and environment. This state-of-the-art report summarizes the key impacts of climate change on water resources and the affected sectors. It reflects on relevant models, projections and uncertainties, discusses global trends and evaluates regional case studies. In cooperation with the Potsdam Institute on Climate Impact Research (PIK) and adelphi, the German development cooperation portrays interlinkages and provides prospects for future action. The significance of water in greenhouse gas mitigation and for the achievement of international climate and development goals becomes evident. The Week on Water for Development (WW4D) offered a platform for thematic exchange on water-related topics with 34 diverse sessions of 77 multi-faceted stakeholders in international cooperation. More than 2000 participants followed our programme - recordings will be available in a few days. Successful approaches of climate resilient water resource management in our partner countries as well as impressions of climate change induced challenges for the water sector become apparent in the subsequent videos. More insights on implemented solutions are yet to follow – stay tuned! We experience severe impacts of climate change through water, especially in water availability and quality.
